The Foundation supports two distinct kinds of requests: individual assistance and research funding. The processes are different. Use the path that fits your situation.
Individual assistance
If you have been diagnosed with an inflammatory disease and need help covering medical equipment, supplies, or related out-of-pocket costs that your insurance has denied, we may be able to reimburse you.
What we’ll need from you
- Documentation of your inflammatory disease diagnosis
- A written insurance denial for the specific expense
- Proof of payment – a receipt or paid invoice showing you have already paid for the item or service
- A short written explanation of what you needed and why it matters to your treatment or daily living
How it works
We reimburse. We do not purchase items on your behalf, because medical equipment generally requires a prescription tied to the patient, and the Foundation is not licensed to make those purchases. You pay out of pocket, gather the documentation above, and submit your request. After the next quarterly board review, we’ll respond.
Timeline
The board meets quarterly. We will acknowledge receipt of your request within [X business days -CONFIRM] and notify you of the outcome within [X days of the next quarterly meeting – CONFIRM].
Research funding
The Foundation accepts full grant proposals from researchers, clinicians, and institutions whose work falls within our five focus areas: cancer; dementia and Alzheimer’s; inflammatory skin conditions; inflammatory joint conditions; and inflammatory or immune-mediated gastrointestinal disease.
What to submit
- A full research proposal, including:
- Principal investigator and institutional affiliation
- Specific aims and hypothesis
- Background and significance
- Research design and methods
- Timeline and milestones
- Budget and budget justification
- Biographical sketch or CV for the principal investigator
- IRB or IACUC status, where applicable
Review timeline
Grant proposals are reviewed by the board on a quarterly schedule. Proposals received after a quarterly cutoff are held for the following meeting. Decisions are communicated in writing.
